Friday (December 17), 5:30pm doors / 7:00pm show, Outdoors at the MACC, $25

We’re playing Peter Piper and picking Pepper, this week. Kona’s own Kaleo Wassman (guitar, vocals), Bret Bollinger (bass, vocals), and Yesod Williams (drums) may be well-known here in the 808, but they’ve also made a mighty name for themselves abroad thanks to “numerous rounds on the Vans Warped Tour and outings with reggae legends The Wailers, 311 and Snoop Dogg, to name a few.” With their extensive touring/recording history beginning back in the mid 1990s, their timeline is exhaustive. So, we’ll pick up in ’08 when they were two-time European tourers, first in Spring alongside Flogging Molly, followed in Fall with Less Than Jake; and spent the summer interim celebrating the release of Pink Crustaceans and Good Vibrations (an album that peaked at #11 on Billboard‘s Independent Albums chart) by touring the U.S. with pals Slightly Stoopid. The Spring of ’09 saw their second co-headline billing with Pennywise at the Jaegermeister Music Tour, and in Fall they shared the stage with Ozzy Osbourne at the Sunset Strip Music Festival. This year, they again hit the road (as if they ever left) with 25 shows for their annual Unity Tour (with 311 and The Offspring), and released their Stitches EP. And, they’re on the eve of releasing their “Drunk Girl” music video — in 3D* (visit pepperlive.com to send away for a free pair of 3D glasses). Their Maui concert is part of the fourth annual Volcanic Rock Out Tour — best of all being it’s an all-ages show. [Oh, and speaking of stuff for under-21ers to (legally) do, The Underground -- a new underage club -- opens this Friday at 744 Front St., Lahaina. 7pm-2am; $10]. If you want to to pick Pepper too, pick up tickets at Requests, Green Banana Internet Cafe, Old Lahaina Book Emporium or through the MACC’s box office. 808-242-7469; mauiarts.org

*Why is this so cool. Oh, right — because MauiTime is, like, the first newspaper to ever make an all-3D issue, and giveaway glasses to boot. So yeah, we’ve got a soft spot for generous, local purveyors of 3D art.

Christmas is just around the corner. May I recommend:
